| 内容記述 | The Amami Islands, originally a territory of the Kingdom of RyuKyu, were invaded and colonized by the Satsuma feudal domain in 1609. Although some ten thousand convicted felons were sent to these islands from mainland Japan in the period of the Edo Era, the realities of the exiles have been hidden behind the thick curtain of secrecy. It appears that many historical documents were set on fire by Satsuma during the chaotic period after the Meiji Restoration. The present paper deals with the actual situation in exile to The Amami Islands over the course of 200 years through research on two historical documents. | |||||
